Edition 2 Will Be Here Soon!
There are a couple of opportunities coming up to check us out:
First, Architrave poets Emily Grise, Ray Holmes and I will be guests of Nicky Rainey on KDHX 88.1FM's Literature for the Halibut Monday April 30 from 9-10pm. If you're not in St. Louis, you can stream the broadcast live from their website.
We'll talk about the press, read from our own work plus some of the poems the press has published, including a sneak peek at Edition 2. Pecha Kucha - Wha?!
If you haven't yet been to a Pecha Kucha night (PK for short), you're missing out on something really wonderful. Each speaker has just 6 minutes and 40 seconds to tell you about their project, their passion, their hero... whatever inspires them. It's pretty hard to leave without feeling inspired yourself.
For example, did you know there is a local couple who teaches people how to make musical instruments out of found objects (i.e. junk), then to play together in a jug band? It's true! Did you ever imagine that hitchhiking could be a meditative act? Myles Dickason convinced me. And the best part is that even though PK nights are an international phenomenon, each night is rooted in its own community. You might, for instance, show up to PKStL#5 and discover how that one metrolink train you'd seen sporting holiday decorations came to be.
I'm happy to report I'll be a presenter at PKStL #8 on January 26, at the Bridge Tap House downtown. But don't come out just to hear me - come to be inspired by all the great people in St Louis you don't yet know about.
If you want to know more, here's a succinct set of faqs from the international organization, and the website for PK in St Louis.

Cherokee Print League Holiday Sale is Dec 3!
The Cherokee Print League Holiday Sale is right around the corner. Architrave poems get born on Cherokee Street, so of course I'll be there to represent. Joining me will be scores of other artists from St. Louis and the region, each of us with a table tucked inside the already fabulous (and warm) brick & mortar establishments. Pick up a map and a hot beverage from Foam, then get a leg up on your holiday shopping while supporting local artists and merchants. And lest you think this event is limited to posters and book arts, think again - if it involves ink, it's here. Come see just how broad that definition can be.

Women in the Arts @ UMSL
The concept for Architrave didn't just occur to me one day – it was a long process that involved many phases of thinking, asking questions, investigating leads and re-evaluation. I’ll talk about that process and what I learned from it at the Women in the Arts Conference on Thursday, November 10 at 2pm.
The conference is three days (Nov. 10-12) of performances and talks by and about women creators and I’m really looking forward to it. There will be poets, fiction writers, musicians (both solo and ensemble), filmmakers, plus scholars of all these disciplines. The scheduled presentations look to be an even mix of process discussion and appreciation of the final product. Registration is only $25 per day or $70 for all three days and FREE for UMSL students and faculty. I hope to see you there!
Jennifer
